HONOR is new to the tablet market, but is actively conquering it by constantly offering users device models suitable for different categories of consumers and use cases. In this review, we will talk about three current models in the brand’s line – the HONOR Pad 8, Pad X8 and Pad X9 tablets.
HONOR Pad 8
First on our list is the HONOR Pad 8 tablet, which went on sale at the beginning of the year. Now the cost of the device is about 20 thousand rubles. This is a model with a large 12-inch screen, which distinguishes it favorably from both other devices in the line and from competitors, and due to this feature, the device can become a good alternative to a laptop – especially if you connect a keyboard case to it, which will significantly expand its capabilities .
In fact, the manufacturer is positioning the Pad 8 this way, backing it up with convenient functions for performing work tasks and consuming content. Among them:
- Multi-screen is an option that blurs the line between a smartphone and a tablet, allowing the user to share files between devices and control one device using another.
- Multi-window mode, which allows you to open up to four windows on the screen, providing multitasking. So you can, for example, divide the display between a browser and a text editor, hang notes in one corner, and a calculator in the other. You will get a convenient working tool for preparing articles and presentations.
- Updated desktop – UI designers tried to make using the tablet comfortable by creating folders and panels with frequently used applications.
- Large display – as mentioned earlier, the HONOR Pad 8 screen has a diagonal of 12 inches and a resolution of 2000×1200, as well as a TÜV Rheinland certificate, which guarantees vision protection from flicker and harmful blue light. It’s a pleasure not only to work with him, but also to watch videos, surf social networks and scroll through memes on the Internet. The large screen is complemented by eight speakers (four tweeters and four woofers) with support for DTS: X Ultra and HONOR Histen, which provide surround sound.
Other characteristics of the model include a metal body, an eight-core Snapdragon 680 processor, 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of storage, two 5 MP cameras – main and front, a 7250 mAh battery, Wi-Fi with support for frequencies 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, Bluetooth 5.1. For 20 thousand rubles, this is quite a good set, especially for those who are looking for an alternative to a laptop: you definitely can’t buy a good laptop for that kind of money.
If we talk about shortcomings, we can complain about the lack of a slot for SIM cards and NFC, as well as a 3.5 mm jack and a fingerprint scanner. On the other hand, if we take into account the “home” use of the device – for working during the day and watching content in the evening, it will not need these additions.
HONOR Pad X8
In Russia, the HONOR Pad X8 tablet went on sale in the spring. The cost of the model starts from 13 thousand rubles, it is positioned as a universal affordable device – thanks to its lightweight and compact body, you can take the tablet with you anywhere.
The Pad X8 has a more modest screen compared to the Pad 8: its diagonal is 10.1 inches and the resolution is 1920×1200. However, it is also certified by TÜV Rheinland to reduce blue light levels, allowing you to use the device in any lighting conditions. The display occupies more than 80% of the front panel.
Other features of the model include:
- Multi-window mode, which allows you to use up to four applications simultaneously.
- An e-book mode that changes the brightness, contrast and color temperature of the display to create the effect of a sheet of paper – this has a positive effect on the perception of text and reduces eye fatigue.
- Magic UI 6.1 user interface is fast and convenient for both beginners (like children and seniors) and experienced users alike.
- Stereo speakers with support for proprietary HONOR Histen technology, which optimizes sound depending on the type of content.
Other parameters of the device include an eight-core MediaTek MT8786 processor, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage, a SIM card slot and LTE support (which makes the device more mobile), a 5100 mAh battery and cameras with a resolution of 5 MP (main) and 2 MP (frontal). Thus, for 13 thousand rubles you can get a good basic option for study and entertainment.
The disadvantages include a small amount of memory and the absence of a 3.5 mm jack, but the first can be solved by installing a memory card (there is a slot for microSD), and the second by connecting wireless headphones.
HONOR Pad X9
HONOR Pad X9 is a tablet that, according to the manufacturer, will provide a best-in-class user experience. All thanks to an 11.5-inch screen with a resolution of 2000×1200, 100% sRGB color gamut, 120 Hz refresh rate and high brightness. The display is also TÜV Rheinland certified for reduced blue light and flicker-free.
Separately, it is worth noting the “Circadian Night Screen” mode, which adds warm tones to the picture in the evening, reducing the emission of harmful blue light and promoting the production of the hormone melatonin to improve sleep quality.
This model is offered at a price of 19 thousand rubles, and is available in two versions: with a Wi-Fi module and LTE. The first is better suited for home use, while the second, thanks to support for mobile Internet, will be a good travel assistant. At the same time, the LTE version supports expanding the internal storage using a microSD memory card, which can be useful for those who plan to use the tablet as a navigator or take it with them on trips.
It also uses an eight-core Snapdragon 685 processor, 4 GB of expandable RAM, a 7250 mAh battery, six multi-directional speakers with support for HONOR Histen sound optimization technology and Vocal Enhancement, as well as main and front cameras with a resolution of 5 MP.
The HONOR Pad X9 has few disadvantages: these include the lack of a 3.5 mm jack and a rather slow charging rate.
Conclusion
HONOR now offers three current tablet models designed for different categories of users: the almost-laptop Pad 8, the basic version of the Pad X8, and the universal device for home and travel, the Pad X9. All devices are good, but which model to choose is up to you.
