Sometimes they come back! The world’s main geek culture festival, Comic Con Astana 2023, took place this weekend.
This is the last official Comic Con held in the CIS since the closure of the IgroMir exhibition, and the first geek culture festival of this scale in Astana since 2019.
The venue was the Astana Congress Center, built in 2017.
Among the headliners of the Comic Con Astana 2023 festival are the producer of the films “Superman”, “Underground” and “Revolver” Pierre Spangler, actors Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn, Alexander Kuznetsov, the creators of the film “Major Thunder: The Game” and the animated series “Explaining”.
Also at the festival site there is a competition of professional cosplayers with a total prize fund of 10,000,000 tenge, which is approximately 2,500,000 million rubles.
For crazy comic book fans like me, there was an opportunity to buy rare comics from the publishing house Molot Hardcorp, dedicated to famous underground rap artists, Pasha the Technician and Dirty Ramirez.
If you are interested in comics from local authors, then there is no problem with that at Comic Con either.
Personally, I bought myself a comic from a local popular comic artist, Alibek Kozhageldiev.
For fans of video games, a separate gaming zone was organized – high-resolution monitors literally “immerse” you into the virtual world.
Returning to the loud announcements of the last festival, it is worth mentioning that the Yandex company and their division Plus Studio brought a lot of really cool projects to the festival.
During the convention, the head of Plus Studio Mikhail Kitaev presented the expected series “Others”, “Eterna”, “Cyberslav”, “Cyber Village” and “Fury”, which will appear exclusively on Kinopoisk.
The most important film premiere was the announcement of the film’s creator, from director Gareth Edwards, who once directed Rogue One.
It is worth recalling that Comic Con is being held in Astana for only the second time, but over the three days of the festival it was visited by 81,000 guests! Not only from Kazakhstan, but from all over the world!
