Just a couple of days ago, open beta testing of a new card game called Eternal started. She is considered very fashionable and quite interesting. And now I think it’s worthwhile to understand why.
The creators of the game are Dire Wolf Digital, an American board and collectible card game development studio.
So, Eternal is a cross-platform card game for absolutely all platforms that are currently available. you can run it on a Windows computer, as well as on Ios and Android mobile operating systems.
The game is quite undemanding to hardware (if we talk about a computer) and generally not badly optimized.
The release of the game in the expanses of the former post-Soviet space is handled by mail.ru. By the way, although the game has been on Steam for quite a long time, registering and playing it through it simply won’t work. Apparently due to the fact that there is already a domestic version.
Naturally, every self-respecting card game (as well as any online game in general) begins with learning. Here it is framed in the form of a story company. Of the three parts, which in turn are divided into five more (in some companies there are two plots for different heroes). In general, the plot is somewhat reminiscent of the game of thrones, and the main character of the first part of the company resembles Roland from the famous “Dark Tower”.
Let’s try to get into the story a bit…
We find ourselves in a typical fantasy kingdom, the king died under unknown circumstances. One child of the king, a bastard, now seeks the truth and wants to claim his right to the throne. The second daughter and real heir fled straight from the palace to the dark part of this world and began to study the art of dark magic, not wanting to be a puppet on the throne.
The third heroine decided to understand the secret of the death of the king and find out what kind of secret society entangled these lands, and Koroleva, becoming nothing more than an atavism, tried to return to her people. She will have to accept the hard truth – for her native tribe she has become a stranger, and the local nobility has not yet accepted her, moreover, someone very much longs for her death. Alas, local customs and general distrust constantly interfere with the hero in his research – informants die all the time without having time to tell the truth, and friends and enemies are so entangled in local intrigues that they attack anyone, even an old ally, that their own overlords. Such is the tangled story full of sharp turns, which will have to be dealt with during special events, events and additional campaigns. But no matter how it was with its main task, the campaign does an excellent job of teaching new players the basics of the game!
Now let’s talk about all the features of the game mechanics.
The most non-standard decision in the game is the way to play all the cards. The method is borrowed from the founder of such games – MTG. The bottom line is that sigils are a separate type of cards, which, in fact, are mana. Each turn, you can play one sigil of your deck color and increase your maximum mana by one. Thus, a third of the deck consists of sigils.
The ambiguity lies in the fact that since mana does not grow by itself, as in Hearthstone, but is a card, then there are often cases when there are creatures in the hand, but there are no sigils – the so-called “manascru”. Well, the opposite phenomenon is “mana flood”, when there is a lot of mana, but there is no creature. True, there are separate cards that help get rid of such problems.
There are only five types of mana that your creatures basically need: fire, shadow, time, justice, and wildness.
Everything related to the battle, it happens here exclusively automatically. That is, by calling a creature on the battlefield, you cannot ask him which card he needs to attack. Here the choice is made by the system itself.
Modes
Eternal offers various game modes in order to make it easier to get new cards, and just have fun. There are currently four such modes: Gauntlet, Forge, Ranked and Draft.
Gauntlet is a PvE mode for beginners in which they have to fight with pre-made decks against random AI opponents. Each next opponent, of which there are only seven, will be stronger than the previous one. For victories, you can earn up to three silver chests. Chests can contain cards, coins, boosters. By the way, the latter contains as many as twelve cards of various rarities.
Forge is another PvE mode where you are asked to pay 2500 coins to enter. But there is more exhaust from the battles in Forge. You have to collect a deck of 25 cards, choosing the most suitable from the three offered. Sigils will be added automatically based on the selected cards. The choice must be approached carefully, because everything that you make a deck from will be added to the collection after the completion of Forge. A great choice for beginners who don’t have a lot of cards. In addition, the maximum reward for achievements in this mode is gold and platinum chests.
Draft is the most expensive, but also the most profitable way to play Eternal. For the entrance they are already asking for as much as 5000 coins. You will be offered to open boosters with cards and build a deck from the received ones. Battles take place with live players, for victories they give platinum chests.
In general, Eternal turned out to be a rather unusual game. In fact, it positions itself not just as another collectible card game, but as a card game – a strategy that clearly has a huge potential and future. Well, this is of course in the event that mail ru does not ruin it, or the players do not get bored with it stupidly.
