Project AM2R (Metroid II: Return of Samus) is an action-adventure game that directly continues the story of the original Metroid. The project acts as an unofficial remake. The full name of the game is Another Metroid 2 Remake. The main character is Samus Aran. Her task is to destroy an alien organism called Metroid from the planet SR388. She has limited time as the Space Pirates are trying to get their hands on this kind of alien for their evil purposes.

The Project AM2R remake improves the game’s graphical performance and also includes new mechanics and music. New maps, zones and mini-bosses have also been added. The artificial intelligence of enemies and the journal system have been updated. The Metroids to be fought go through 4 stages of evolution: Alpha, Gamma, Zeta, and Omega. At each stage of development, they pose a stronger threat. There are 55 unique bosses to fight.

Save modules are scattered all over the planet. Metroid II: Return of Samus introduces 2 new weapons: the Spazer Laser Beam, which splits into three parts, and the Plasma Cannon, which pierces through enemies.
