Descent 3 – a crossover of such genres as an air sim and a first-person shooter. In the center of the story is the hero Material Defender 103. He miraculously managed to escape death in an explosion on an alien planetoid. He decides to return to Earth again. However, here he failed. The shuttle crashes. Drifting through the open space, the protagonist’s ship picks up the research vessel Red Acropolis.

On board the ship, the hero learns that the virus that can turn peaceful robots into ruthless death machines is still at large and hovering within the galaxy. Moreover, this information was hidden by PTMC – Defender’s bosses. The protagonist has no choice but to take up the investigation.

The basics of the gameplay compared to the previous parts have not changed. It is still necessary to control the space shuttle, exploring alien stations and mines. On your way there are many infected robots and other enemies. It is necessary to fight them with the help of laser and missile arsenals. The main innovation in Descent 3 was the story and more diverse tasks.

The campaign offers many missions: sneak into the station undetected, deactivate the force field, destroy 5 reactors in 3 minutes, disable the cooling system, rescue the scientist from imprisonment, etc. Enemies are as diverse as possible: large robots, weak, small and fast – all behave differently and have unique movement patterns. Almost all missions take place not within tight corridors, but in open space and among celestial bodies.
